POWER Project: Time Salon – Empathic Economies
@ Comfort Station Logan Square
2579 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Sunday, June 3rd, from 4PM - 5:30PM
This event is part of the Time Salon series. The Time Salon is a facilitated gathering offered by The Kola Nut Collaborative which guides participants through dialogue and practice in communal asset mapping, social economy, and non-monetary exchange. In this intentional space, we challenge the idea that participation in a framework of economic exchange necessitates the use of the dollar as currency.

Theme: Empathic Economies: A Listening Session for Dr. Candice Nicole’s “Black Lives Matter Meditation for Healing Racial Trauma”
The Black Lives Matter Meditation for Healing Racial Trauma is a 17 minute guided meditation using mindfulness, affirmation, and metta (loving-kindness) developed by Dr. Candice Nicole as her contribution to the Movement for Black Lives. In her practice, she employs guided meditation as “one way to assist in calming a heightened state of distress, affirming one’s value and humanity, and recentering with love for Black people.”
During this listening session, participants of the Time Salon will share space while engaging the guided meditation in order to disrupt a history devaluing and marginalizing Black life as preparation for developing new measures and mechanisms of exchange which value life, community, ecology, consensus, creativity, and emergence.
