Opening Wednesday, June 6th, from 6PM - 8PM
We invite you to join us on Wednesday, June 6th for Overlook Field Trip: Disappearance & Video as Document Screening that is a part of Sin Cinta Previa at Comfort Station!
When: Wednesday, June 6th 6-8pm
Where: Comfort Station, 2579 N Milwaukee
Amount: Free and open to public
Chaperone: Alexis Brocchi
Info: This screening and conversation will continue from the opening discussion, unpacking excerpts of Lourdes Portillo’s extensive body of work. Excerpts viewed will touch on the intimate nature of documentary, auto-ethnography and home video aesthetics. Grappling with death and trauma these works engage histories of disappearances such as those of Mexican women along the U.S.-Tijuana border and the Plaza de Maya Mothers movement redressing those disappearances of Argentinian youth throughout the C.I.A. sponsored Operation Condor and Operation Central America.
Sin Cinta Previa events programmed by Jose Luis Benavides as part of the Art Leaders of Color Network (ALCN)’s P.O.W.E.R. Project. Find the full schedule for Sin Cinta Previa at www.sincintaprevia.com
About Overlook Field Trips:
Overlook Field Trips are a way to connect with a creative community and explore Chicago’s cultural happenings together. Ever wanted to go to a play or opening but couldn’t find someone to go with? Yea, so have we – so let’s go together! Each Field Trip will include an Overlook Chaperone to make sure the group feels supported and will offer to meet for coffee or a drink after the trip to talk about their trip, connect with one another, and inspire further conversation. Field Notes has generously donated notebooks for participants!
