This audio documentary workshop led by Chicago-based DJ Ayana Contreras explores the rich Chicagoland stories of migration. Contreras facilitates skills for documenting personal stories through sound, with techniques that include writing around quotes, setting scenes, and identifying narrative arcs.

**This workshop has a limited number of spaces. To reserve a spot, please email your RSVP to gallery400engagement@gmail.com with the subject line “Migration Stories.”**

Ayana Contreras is a DJ who spins original vinyl records, many of which were born right here in Chicago. Her radio show, “Reclaimed Soul” on Vocalo 91.1fm, highlights these records, as well as the stories behind them. Ayana was a 2014-15 University of Chicago Arts + Public Life Artist-in-Residence; and her first book, a history of Arts and Culture in post-Civil Rights Era Black Chicago, is forthcoming through Northwestern University Press.

The event is presented in conjunction with “Out of Easy Reach” now on view through August 5
