James Deeb: The Midnight Broadcast
@ 1100 Florence
1100 Florence Ave, Evanston, IL 60202
Opening Friday, April 13th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Sunday, April 15th
James Deeb presents The Midnight Broadcast, a pop-up exhibition of paintings and drawings from his ongoing series, Mythic City. The work is a personal and often fantastical record of the people Deeb observes as he moves through the city of Chicago. Since he works from memory, however, they are not traditional portraits, but tronies; composites of different features and expressions. Deeb strives to infuse each piece with pathos and a touch of mystery in order to create work that adds up to more than the sum of its parts.
James Deeb is an Evanston-based artist who has been producing and exhibiting paintings and drawings for nearly thirty years. He received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University South Bend in 1988 and earned a Master of Fine Art degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo in 1994. James has shown his work locally and nationally in numerous group and solo exhibitions.
