About the Artist:

Moises Salazar is a Chicago based Latinx artist. Moises Salazar comes from a proud family history of immigrants and his work is tailored to showcase the trauma, history, and unspoken narratives of undocumented immigrants. Moises Salazar believes if we are exposed to the reality of the barriers that immigrants face, then and only then, will we begin to dismantle the myths and stereotypes used to criminalize and dehumanize them.

Laws like SB1070 have made it nearly impossible for undocumented immigrants to achieve the dreams they set out for. Undocumented immigrants all have experienced degrees of trauma. Despite the gravity of obstacles purposely placed in front of them, they continue to thrive in their communities and pass the knowledge they have gained from their experiences to those around them. We must understand that undocumented immigrants, and any individual who has experienced any degree of trauma, are a vital resource for our communities. Immigrants are essential to the cultural evolution of our country. Moises Salazar work is a response to the resurgence of, segregation, hate, and social borders. The work aims to bring into focus the magnitude of strength that has been vital to the evolution of immigrant community.
