Playing the Room
@ High Concept Labs
2233 S Throop St, Chicago, IL 60608
Opening Saturday, February 17th, from 7PM - 9:30PM
Fall 2017 Sponsored Artist Anthony Janas presents a performance piece that breaks down the notion that architecture must be a submissive member in a live musical performance. Playing The Room works with the concept that the artist performing in the room should interact, improvise, and work with the space as another instrument. Janas utilizes solenoid triggers (small percussive devices), contact microphones and four transducers to turn the HCL studio into a giant instrument. Forest Management will play an opening set.
Forest Management is John Daniel (b.1989 in Hemet, CA), an American musician currently living and working in Chicago, Illinois. The project began in 2011 in Daniel’s hometown of Westlake, Ohio.
“As Forest Management, John Daniel records profoundly elegaic drifts of ambient music that disarms everything in its path.” – Bobby Power, Decoder Magazine
