Holographic Body is a group exhibition featuring works by Michelle Bolinger, Gina Hunt, Katy Kirbach, Nicole Mauser and Erin Smego. The paintings and sculpture embody art’s paradoxical attributes of light and material, i.e., representation and object. Each artist is processed based; weaving fabric, excavating space through erasure, or layering pattern over pattern, such that the subjectivity of visual experience mingles with material relations. This disrupts perception as forms emerge and disperse. The works are unabashedly formalist and abstract, while still being immersed in contemporary visual culture.
