Join us at the Currency Exchange Café for a special First Monday Jazz event featuring avery r. young & de deacon board.
Multidisciplinary artist avery r. young is a Cave Canem alum & 3Arts Awardee whose written work has appeared in The BreakBeat Poets, The Golden Shovel Anthology: New Poems Honoring Gwendolyn Brooks, The Whiskey of Our Discontent: Gwendolyn Brooks as Conscience and Change and other anthologies. His album booker t. soltreyne: a race rekkid is a combines his poetry and sound design to discuss matters of race and identity in America during the Obama Era. His vocal talents are featured on world renowned flutist and composer Nicole Mitchell’s newest release Mandorla Awakening || Emerging Worlds (FPE records). He currently works as a teaching artist and performs with his band de deacon board.
