How can the untouchable, be touched?
Blanket Statements is a multi-city exhibition project with exhibitions and events in Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Chicago’s exhibition centers on the politics of fiber and ways in which they can be used as powerful statements, such as protest banners, flags, blankets. Thinking about our current political climate and how something as mundane as a blanket can now be charged with connotations and expectations of care, warmth, and protection in a time when all are needed but seem a luxury. Blanket Statements brings together the work of eight artists with diverse approaches to fiber and textile making to illuminate the importance of this medium as a form of resistance.
We offer an alternative to the traditional exhibition opening to take an evening to care for one another and have an intimate evening of art, performance, and community. The evening will be B.Y.O.B(lanket) to cuddle and sit on. We will be collecting blankets to donate to Connections for Abused Women and their Children.
