Come out and support the AACM Great Black Music Annual Kwanzaa Concert, libation by Mama Sunshine.

Acclaimed jazz saxophonist and composer Ernest Dawkins and his band presents a special performance in partnership with the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, featuring guest jazz guitarist George Freemen.

As a premier performing group of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, Inc. (AACM), Great Black Music Ensemble features some of Chicago’s most visionary artists of improvisation and creative music. An intergenerational ensemble ranging in size from three to thirty pieces, Great Black Music Ensemble performs historical repertoire from the great pool of AACM composers, led by Ernest Dawkins. The GBM Ensemble carries on the legacy of Chicago’s South Side creative music that made its place on the music history map by expressing the excitement of new sounds and rhythms, while invigorating the traditions of black music including funk, reggae, bebop, swing, and African and Caribbean styles. The GBM Ensemble can augment concert performances with lectures and/or workshops on creative music, AACM history, improvisation, the Chicago jazz tradition, and more.
