Tupac: Resurrection
@ Stony Island Arts Bank
6760 S. Stony Island Ave
Opening Friday, November 3rd, from 7PM - 9:30PM
A documentary essentially made by Tupac Amaru Shakur, Tupac: Resurrection uses interviews, photographs and home movies to present the life of one of the greatest music artists of all time. Growing up in a politicized atmosphere, initiated by his mother Afeni who was a Black Panther, Shakur attended a performing arts high school in Baltimore, where he began rapping. Success came early, as did a series of arrests and accusations of violence, leading up to his meteoric rise to fame and still-unsolved 1996 murder. Today, he is remembered fondly as a complex American legend who spoke against white supremacy, police brutality, institutionalized racism, the failures of capitalism, and mischaracterizations of the Black identity and experience.
Join us November 3rd at 7pm and stay after for a discussion about the film!
