Please join us and Brazilian curator Thiago de Paula Souza for a talk on the exhibition Divine Violence. de Paula Souza will examine the sociopolitical context of contemporary Brazilian society as shown through Marcelle and Mata Machado’s videos, tracing the ways these works offer a non-binary reading of recent events in the country.

This event is presented as part of the Logan Center’s 5 Year Anniversary Birthday Bash.

ABOUT THIAGO DE PAULA SOUZA
Thiago de Paula Souza is a member of the 10th Berlin Biennale curatorial team and previously worked as an educator at São Paulo’s Museu AfroBrasil (2014-2016). In 2016 he co-curated the exhibition Living On – In Other Words on Living? at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Austria. At the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo, de Paula Souza joined the Accra Study Days team, organized by Gabi Ngcobo as part of the public program, and was also part of the Bienal’s Oficina de Imaginação Política (“political imagination workshop”). He co-created We Cannot Build What We Cannot First Imagine (WCB WCFI), a visionary platform that gathers works and perspectives on topics of radical imagination, alter-futurisms, disruptive archives, queer politics and black philosophy from various artists and thinkers. He lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil.
