Mixed media work by Scott Hassell + Rebekka Federle
Platform is pleased to present a two-person exhibition, Definitely?, showcasing the art of Rebekka Federle and Scott Hassell. Definitely?, highlights obsessive attention to materiality. While both artists cull from a vast collection of sources; the consistent factor is the level of detail and attention to craft.
REBEKKA FEDERLE was born on the southside of Chicago, she has moved, by her estimate, 27 times. Inspired by her experiences in Budapest, New Orleans, Kansas City, Maine, and Berlin, her work engages with ancient myths, folklore, and her own memories from these diverse communities. She articulates these narratives by culling antique printed material to compose an entirely new scene. These reconfigured tableau suggest an uncanny dreamscape, encouraging the viewer to imagine their own narratives.
SCOTT HASSELL is currently working in Los Angeles. He received an MFA from Arizona State University and BFA from The Kansas City Art Institute. He has had his artwork published in Resist Newspaper along with various other publications. His work has been exhibited at Bakersfield museum of art and group exhibitions at Tiger Strikes Asteriod in LA. Hassell’s abstracted images, are informed by his Printmaking past. He is well versed in a variety of drawing and printmaking techniques using these to explore image creation.
