The Art of Political Cartoons – Printmaking Open Studio

Presented by the UIC Latino Cultural Center

Join us for a hands-on printmaking* open studio led by Eric J. Garcia, creator of the controversial political cartoon series El Machete Illustrated. Participants will create artwork in the form of postcards around the interrelated topics of immigration and environmental justice.

Eric J. Garcia is known for mixing history and culture with contemporary themes. He always tries to create art that is much more than just aesthetics. Garcia has exhibited nationally, to including institutions like the National Museum of Mexican Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. He received his BFA with a minor in Chicano studies from the University of New Mexico, and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Open Studio: 1pm-4pm
