Doing the Most: Rashayla Marie Brown Presents Liz Gomez
@ Chicago Cultural Center
78 E Washington St, Chicago, IL 60602
Opening Friday, July 14th, from 5PM - 5:45PM
Starting in 2016 with DCASE, artist Rashayla Marie Brown (RMB) embarked on five back-to-back residencies in the city of Chicago. In this series, she will present former studio assistants who are also practicing artists in their own right. RMB has unrealized dreams for herself and these artists, designer Brianna McIntyre and painter/performer Liz Gomez. In this installment, Liz Gomez will proclaim her own practice as an independent entity. Liz Gomez will lead an improvisational performance that centers around the soul healing powers found within sonic exploration and sisterhoods. The night will begin with a collaborative performance featuring the women from Gomez’s portrait series and end in a short artist talk and audience q&a.
This Artist Talk is part of the exhibition Triptych Unloose exhibition featuring artists: Rashayla Marie Brown (RMB), Paola Cabal, and Jacob Yeung. Triptych Unloose is an exhibition of the 2016-2017 DCASE Artists in Residence in the private studio at the Chicago Cultural Center curated by 2016-2017 Curators in Residence Cecilia L. Vargas and JGV/WAR (J. Gibran Villalobos and Wil Ruggiero).
