Tracings

@ Public Access

3306 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60647

Opening Friday, June 16th, from 6PM - 9PM

On view through Friday, July 7th

Public Access presents Tracings, an exhibition collectively curated and produced by Abbye Churchill, Keeley Haftner, David Hall, and Greg Ruffing, considers the obfuscation and transparency of time: one preliminary effect on a site of encounter. A trace is both a track and to track. Tracking is an ordered sense and is ordered in the sense of retroactive pursuit, like a track that appears to have a resolution or conclusion. We can fabricate where it is going because we know where it ends. Yet, like any successful tracking, a trace is about making ends meet, an imagined end whose surfaced effects stand in for nothing but themselves. Tracing lends itself toward discontinuity, moving around form by way of form. Tracing points toward meaning while moving against it. That giving tracings are given trackings might also harbor the relation between before and after, disposition and relation, or the reveal of a mark and a marked display.

Tracings is the final exhibition of Public Access’ inaugural season, and seeks to recognize the founders’ roles as artists curating artists.
