Lou Mallozzi presents a rare solo set of improvisations with turntables, CDs, mixer, microphones, and text. The set will be intertwined with questions, arguments and discussion posed by theorist and artist Seth Kim-Cohen. The result may be an improvised performance that contains its own interrogation, or an interrogation that improvises its own performance.

Lou Mallozzi is an artist who explores sound and its relationships to social space, gesture, representation, and mediation. His work includes performances, interventions, improvised music, installation, and drawing. He is Assistant Professor in the Sound Department of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and director emeritus of ESS.
Seth Kim-Cohen is a writer, theorist, and artist whose work probes the interrelationships of sound, music, and conceptualism. He is author of In the Blink of an Ear: Towards a Non-Cochlear Sonic Art and Against Ambience and Other Essays, and is Associate Professor in the Department of Art History, Theory and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
OPTION is a weekly music salon on Monday nights at Experimental Sound Studio. Its programming explores contemporary perspectives on improvisation and composition in a ‘salon’ format, enabling local, national, and international artists to publicly discuss their practice and ideas as well as perform—all in the intimate environment of ESS’s Studio A. Organized by Chicago musicians Andrew Clinkman, Tim Daisy, and Ken Vandermark, the schedule of concerts represents an insider’s view of what is currently most exciting in music and the arts. Shows are professionally recorded by ESS staff, and are nearly always streamed live at http://bit.ly/ess_stream. We are continuing the process of assembling a library of archived streams that subscribers to the series may access at any time.
