Aligning the Echo

@ Friendzone

3323 W Diversey Ave, Chicago, IL 60647

Opening Friday, June 2nd, from 6PM - 9PM

On view through Friday, June 16th

A disillusioned garden view. Enter into multiple frames that guide you into the sublime landscape. Positioned perfectly into a moment of time, one is asked to contemplate their position.

Ellen Hanson (b. 1992) is a Chicago-based artist who makes post-romantic landscapes by balancing comfort and discomfort, utopia and dystopia, nature and artifice. She is interested in creating scenes where the sublime penetrates urban life and intersects with voyeurism. Hanson received her BA from Bennington College in 2014 where she focused on painting and art history. Her work has been featured on Mist Gallery, and she has most recently exhibited at Miishkooki in Skokie, IL.

Hannah Sawyer (b.1991) is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary artist. Sawyer explores the disconnect in physicality that lies between the analog and digital space. Through her reimagining of digital objects, she plays with the illusion of depth. By creating physical forms that make the viewer question their falsehood, she explores the bi-directional transference of context between the digital and the material. She received her BFA in sculpture from Pratt Institute in 2013, and after completing residencies at Salem Art Works in New York and at Franconia Sculpture Park in Minnesota, Sawyer moved to Chicago. Her most recent works have been shown at TCC Gallery in Chicago and Yeah Maybe in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
