Ali: Fear Eats the Soul by Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Sunday, February 19th 6:30-9:00
Regarded as one of the high-water marks in German New Wave Cinema of the 1970s, Rainer Werner Fassbinder tells the improbable love story of Ali, a Moroccan immigrant, and Emmi, a German widow old enough to be his mother. They get married and quickly encounter prejudice and discrimination from neighbors, friends and family. One of Fassbinder’s most popular films, it’s an homage to his cinematic idol Douglas Sirk’s “All That Heaven Allows.” With subtitles.
A discussion will follow led By Dylan Cale Jones.
