ANDREW RAFACZ is pleased to announce Latham Zearfoss: INTENTS & PURPOSES.
Opening Saturday, January 21, 2017, Chicago-based artist Latham Zearfoss is presenting a new body of work in a solo show entitled INTENTS & PURPOSES at Andrew Rafacz Gallery, running through Saturday, March 4, 2017. The sculptural and time-based pieces in INTENTS & PURPOSES aim to playfully converse between tropes of market culture and political interventions, each with their own method of display. The works exhibited will function as kiosk-like auras, presented as (bleeding) islands throughout the space of the gallery. While leftist thinkers return to the trope of capitalism as a co-opting force within radical political movements, the faux-funhouse setting of INTENTS & PURPOSES will force a kind of truce between these disparate energies and their corollary discourses. In doing so, Zearfoss asks us how marginal publics might harness the language and affects (or effects) of consumer culture, and to what end. More directly, is the pursuit of political and spiritual liberation within cash-hungry dominant culture a fool’s errand?
Join us for an artist reception on Saturday, January 21 from 4–7pm
