TAKING CUE FROM DEB SOKOLOW’S ICA@50 EXHIBITION, YOU DONT
HAVE TO BE HERE, UTILIZES THE ARTIST’S CONSPIRACY LACED
HUMOR TO JUXTAPOSE NOTIONS OF THE PUBLIC AND PUBLIC –
PRIVATE AS WELL AS HOW THESE INTERESTS SITUATE SPACE.
ALONGSIDE SOKOLOW’S WORK, SELECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE
FROM THE COLLECTION OF SCOTT HUNTER, WHICH IS STORED AT
SOUTH OF THE TRACKS BY PROXY CALLING INTO QUESTION THE
FUNCTIONALITY OF AN ART SPACE WHILST COEXISTING WITHIN THE
SPACIAL STRUCTUREOF ASSET MANAGEMENT. LIKEWISE
VISIBILITY AND PROXIMITY ARE AT PLAY DUE TO THE LOCATION OF
THE EXHIBITION SPACE, AND ITS ARCHITECTURE BUT ALSO THE
ATYPICAL NATURE OF THE COLLECTION WHICH HAS BEEN TURNED
INTO A CURATORIAL TOOL FOR USAGE BY FUTURE PROGRAMMING,
INSTEAD OF BEING STORED AWAY FOR SAFE KEEPING.
