Joe Ryan is our new featured artist at The SoFo Tap for October/November! His show will be featuring works from his series “Broz & Braziers — Pop Portraits by Joe Ryan.” Come meet the artist, grab a drink and chill, and check out his artwork this Sunday, October 2, from 4-7pm.
About Joe Ryan: I am an artist and teacher residing in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. In the fall of 2007, I completed my undergraduate program from Illinois State University in art education and painting. In the spring of 2011, I finished my master’s program in special education from Lewis University. I currently work as a special education teacher and have experience teaching diverse learners in grades k-12.
Personal identity has always been a common theme within my art. I want my subjects to be uniquely identified through my artwork. With painting and photo manipulation, I enhance personal characteristics of my subjects. I am strongly influenced by pop culture and embed specific elements of our modern day society within my art through fashion and symbolism.
