Home Viewing #3
@ JGV/WAR
3060 W. Cortland, Chicago, IL
Opening Saturday, October 15th, from 7PM - 10PM
On view through Monday, November 7th
“Home Viewing” is pleased to announce the exhibition will be hosted by JGV/WAR (J. Gibran Villalobos and Wil A. Ruggiero) of 3060 W. Cortland in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. An opening reception with educational entertainment will be held on October 15th from 7pm to 10pm. Participating artists include Carla Fisher Schwartz, Jaxon Pallas, and Hui-min Tsen.
Installed in a domestic setting, Carla Fisher Schwartz’s print installations absurdly propose common elements of the home as remote destinations on a fictional coastline. By conflating the familiar and the unfamiliar, these works continue Fisher Schwartz’s investigations into the nature of contemporary virtual exploration of the physical world.
Jaxon Pallas takes on the idea of exploration and way-finding by remotely providing the group with a short lecture and series of directions.
Hui-min Tsen loans objects and photographs inspired by the story of Dr. Elisha Kent Kane (arctic explorer) and his secret lover Maggie Fox (spirit rapper). Tsen’s inquiries into the unknown collect and record views of the liminal spaces where visibility ceases and immediate perception gives way to mediated knowledge; where light falls off, where the earth curves, where the atmosphere starts to obscure the line of sight.
The evening is open to the public. Open to viewing through appointment at jgv.war@gmail.com or by calling 773-340-1412
