Agency and Interpretation: The Role of Artists in the Design and Production of Colonial Latin American Art

Little is known about the artists who produced the paintings and luxury objects characteristic of colonial Latin American art. This talk will provide an overview of the sources for artistic biographies of this period and will consider the implications for the display of the relevant works within a museum context. The lecture is held by Victoria Sancho Lobis, the Prince Trust Curator and Interim Chair for Department of Prints and Drawings at The Art Institute of Chicago.
