Opening Sunday, August 7th, from 3PM - 4PM
On view through Thursday, September 1st
Anyone who has ever tried to cross Chicago’s streets understands the dangers and risks that the road can bring, but Susan Krueger-Barber’s comedic persona Art Grrrl is here to help!
Corner is pleased to announce that artist Susan Krueger-Barber will be in residence from August 1st to September 1st, 2016. As a current MFA student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), Kreuger-Barber has conducted extensive research on crosswalk behaviors in urban environments. To put her research into action, Corner will be used as a laboratory to identify the source of crosswalk dangers and provide solutions to promote pedestrian safety in the Avondale neighborhood.
This Sunday (8/7) at 3pm, Kreuger-Barber will take on her comedic persona Art Grrrl to address the issues surrounding pedestrian safety and crosswalk infrastructure. By placing colorful piñatas and orange traffic cones on the street, this intervention seeks to increase the crosswalk’s visibility and heighten pedestrians’ presence to drivers on the high-traffic Milwaukee Ave.
**Each Sunday in August, from 12PM to 5PM, Kreuger-Barber will also host meet and greet sessions at Corner, where she will answer any questions that you may have about her work, or discuss whatever concerns you might have surrounding pedestrian safety.
