Anne Yafi: No Illusions

Anne Yafi is a multi-media contemporary artist. She graduated with an MFA from The School of the Art Institute Chicago in 2015, and a BFA from Northern Illinois University in 2011. Her artwork is a playful stretch in what constitutes contemporary drawing and painting. She categorizes her work based on the mental processes used when making a piece rather than the medium. Color relationships are at the heart of her work and she views her hanging pipe cleaner pieces as animated three dimensional drawings/paintings. this is her logic.
Working within the confines of a two dimensional pictorial frame really annoys her. Having said that, she recently returned to painting on canvas, deciding to fondle that annoyance. She has a complicated push/pull relationship with Painting’s illusionistic depth, She’s not looking for solutions, just enjoying the problem.
