Woman Made invites you to celebrate the opening of “Quest: Choose Your Adventure,” a 2 part project featuring a solo exhibit with art by Krista Hoefle and panel discussion with members of Not Your Mama’s Gamer. Through physical manifestations of elements of game play, the exhibit explores the emotional impact video games can have in/on real life and the deep connection formed with environments and characters. It also delves into gaming culture the gendered nature of videogames through some of the subject matter and anecdotes from the artist which can be displayed as text on the wall as part of the exhibit.
Krista Hoefle is a professional artist, long time gamer, and an instructor at St Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana. She exhibits internationally and is represented by Aron Packer of the Packer Schopf Gallery in Chicago. Her work has been reviewed in regional and national publications such as Sculpture Magazine, Art Papers, The Wall Street Journal and TimeOut Chicago.
The panel discussion portion of this project will feature bloggers from Not Your Mama’s Gamer, a blog dedicated to empowering and educating female gamers and founded by students and instructors at Purdue. The topic of discussion will be gender and identity in gaming culture following Gamergate* focusing on issues of sexism and progressivism in video game culture. Input and questions from the audience are encouraged throughout. They will also gladly talk shop about video games with audience members. Panel will be moderated by curator Jessica Segal and Jennifer Justice (NYMG contributor and graduate student at Purdue).
