Performance: “Rise” by Darling Shear

Portraying the story of Eisha Love, “Rise” shares the tragic and often too real persecution of how transgender individuals are treated by hetero-normative society and the court system. “Rise” is a quartet that captures the events that lead to the unfortunate incarceration of Eisha through dance. The piece ends on a high note with Eisha receiving support and understanding, and her seeing herself in a new light and uplifted by a community she did not know she had.
