Doubling, architecture, duration, and displacement—Halve Knots, the work of Lou Mallozzi, will unfold and offer an interweaving of sound, text, image, and action that allows the audience to drift or focus as desired.
Open to the public, this program will feature four pieces that include performance, installation, and drawing:
Two Rooms (for DVM) (2005), looping video with stereo sound.
Talk to the wall (2016), performed by Anna Orlikowska and Willy Smart with voice-activated piano.
Module (2016), installation with four tape measures.
Decades (for MM) (2016), a durational performance and drawing by Lou Mallozzi.
Lou Mallozzi is a Chicago based interdisciplinary artist who works primarily with sound, text, drawing, installation, performance, and music. He has presented his work at many venues in the US and Europe, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Renaissance Society, the Evanston Art Center, Donald Young Gallery, Experimental Intermedia in New York, Ausland in Berlin, Podewil in Berlin, TUBE Audio Art Series Munich, Radiorevolten Festival Halle, DETT Festival in Geneva, and many others. He is Adjunct Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Sound Department of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In June he will depart his current position as Executive Director of Experimental Sound Studio which he co-founded 30 years ago as a center for the presentation and production of exploratory sonic arts in Chicago.
