The Alcove is pleased to present New Work by Crystal Zapata.
“Deselfing (n.) Willingly diluting one’s sense of self and ego by plastering the internet with as much information as possible
Undeselfing (n.) (a.k.a. reselfing) The attempt , usually frantic and futile to reverse the deselfing process”
The Age of Earthquakes by Shumon Basar, Douglas Coupland, and Hans Ulrich Obrist
The internet has caused humans to possess a violent desire for speedily comprehensive images and information, while none of it is meant to be lasting. This work is an attempt at countering the current phenomenon of producing work that is easily accessible, and understood through social media and the Internet as the primary medium. Crystal Zapata is making an effort to trump her own ephemeral, and valueless online experiences through creating tactile works based on her offline interactions.
