Artist Julie Rafalski re-examines the output of artists, architects and designers of the modernist era, creating playful dialogues with the visual language of modernism. She often reuses printed ephemera and old art history books and encyclopedias, intervening in those images in various ways. Her pieces constitute a remixing of material, forging new connections and invoking the ghosts of the modernism.

Dear Mondrian is series of collages comprising of pages cut from a Piet Mondrian monograph and colored acetate layered over the images. The colors of the acetate mimic Mondrian’s red, blue and yellow while their shapes challenge his rectangular planes.

This exhibition is presented by the Logan Center in collaboration with Contempo and the Jazz Double Bill concert on April 16th in the Performance Hall. Dear Mondrian connects with the music program, which will feature audio-visual pieces by Jaroslaw Kapuscinski and Marek Choloniewski as well as a jazz set by Grazyna Auguscik.
