Lush Voyeur, an exhibition of new works by Aubrey Ingmar Manson, brings together ghostly images and variant textures to reveal secrets and poetics through the artist’s’ exploration of intimacy, private perception and tactile materiality. Highly experiential, Manson touches on themes of growth and nurturing to entreat the viewer to a dreamy naturalism. As the title suggests, the work is sensual and private, delicate and erotic in its visualization. Manson utilizes various textures and surfaces to coalesce into a deep dreaminess.
Though Manson’s work seems to spring from the depths of the unconscious, there are bigger things at stake than a discussion of consciousness. Instead, the work is preoccupied with a feminine vulnerability shot through with an erotic anxiety. The soft, pliable materials utilized, when combined with the slick, wet surface textures, oozes an experience of bodily membranes into visual works of art. Done intentionally, Manson’s work interacts specifically with the materials presented and the ideology of interior functions.
Manson describes the effect of her work, stating, “I project personal paranoia as to how I believe the world operates into observable metaphorical stages. My most immense fears come forth, expressing themselves singularly or in sensual environments containing elements of both eerie fascination and comfort. Societal aspects are abstracted to produce bodily interactions and power relationships within abject installations and meandering philosophies.”
