@ R. Hanel Photography Studio
119 N Peoria Street, Chicago IL 60607
Opening Friday, June 5th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Saturday, June 6th
Elephant Room is excited to present “Let Her Be Elevated,” a pop-up exhibition of new works by Chicago-based artist Andy Bellomo that will feature etched and hand-cut glassworks. Bellomo’s abstract multi-media stained glass collages are at once monumental and intimate, capturing the individual personalities and energies of nine Chicago burlesque performers. This show will tell a visual story about the unique and significant impact of burlesque on performers, audience members, and students in the realms of self-confidence and body acceptance.
The show will open Friday, June 5th at R. Hanel Photography Studio, 119 N Peoria St., suite 3A, with a reception open to the public from 6pm to 9pm where guests will be able to view and purchase works, meet the artist and enjoy drinks and light fare. There will be an after-party and burlesque performance at the Charnel House on 3421 W Fullerton Ave., Chicago. Doors open at 9:30pm with the performance beginning at 10:30pm. Admission is $6. Additional viewing hours will be on Saturday, June 6th from 12 to 5pm with an artist talk starting at 2pm.
Andy Bellomo is a mixed media artist, applying her perspective with acrylic, stained glass, repurposed objects, and spray paint. Influenced by the lines, motion, and the grittiness of her environments, she approaches her work with an endless energy. Andy’s glass work and etching explore the duality of line work as a boundary and as infinite possibility. Previously, her works have exhibited at the Marran Gallery in Cambridge, the Joffrey Ballet Studio in Chicago, the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago, and Studio 659 in Whiting, Indiana. In addition to studio art, Andy has collaborated or lead in over 25 large-scale public art projects that span the country. Andy received a B.S. in Education and Human Services from Northeastern University in Boston, and a MA and M.Ed. in Creative Arts and Learning from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.
