Things

@ Design Cloud

118 N. Peoria St., 2nd Floor, Chicago, IL 60607

Opening Friday, May 2nd, from 6PM - 9PM

On view through Thursday, July 10th

Design Cloud presents Things, a group show curated by Spring 2014 MOUNT Curatorial Resident, Michal Novotny. Director at the Center of Contemporary Art (FUTURA) in Prague, Novotny assembles a collection of works by an array of artists based mostly in Eastern Europe.

“There is no such thing as conceptual art,” says Novotny, “because objects have innate drama, context, and emotional meaning. All art is conceptual in its very existence—this existence being all that matters.”

Taking its title from French experimental writer Grorges Perec’s Les Choses, Things presents the work of nine emerging and established European artists:

Julie Bena (France)
Jan Broz (Czech Republic)
Silvie Defraoui (Switzerland)
Boris Dornbusch (Germany)
Hynek Alt & Aleksandra Vajd (Czech Republic & Slovenia)
Ivars Gravlejs & Avdei Ter-Organian (Latvia & Russia)
and Denisa Lehocka (Slovakia)

The opening reception begins at 6pm with and artist talk featuring Novotny and Julie Bena.

This is a FREE event. Refreshments will be available.
