A Journey Through Mediums – from installations to video games
This Cultural Conversation will focus on Chyr’s evolution as an artist, starting with installations, and expanding to include a range of mediums in his body of work. Chyr will speak to his experience relating to the double-edge sword of being typecast as an artist, and the steps he took to break away from such expectations. Chyr will demonstrate sections from his recent work in videogames.
Willy Chyr is a visual artist and independent game developer currently based in Chicago. His work focuses on the intersection of art and science, and spans a wide range of mediums, including installation, print, and new media.
Chyr is a past artist-in-residence of the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel, and the Lawrence Arts Center. He has received commissions from Beck’s, AOL, the Wormfarm Institute, and his work has been featured in a number of publications and media outlets, including NPR, TIME, Elle, and the Toronto Star. Chyr holds a B.A. degree in Physics and Economics from the University of Chicago. He is currently working on Relativity, an exploration-puzzle game set in an Escher-esque world.
