pARTicipatory: a Hatch Projects exhibition
@ Chicago Artists Coalition
217 North Carpenter Street
Opening Friday, August 9th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Thursday, August 29th
Chicago Artists Coalition is pleased to present pARTicipatory, a HATCH Projects exhibition featuring new works by Chaz Evans, Amber Ginsburg, Mothergirl, Jake Myers, Hoyun Son and Latham Zearfoss, curated by Anna Trier and Meredith Weber (Happy Collaborationists).
pARTicipatory posits that the audience’s participation and engagement with an artwork is as important as the work itself. With this connectivity in mind, this exhibition of performative and interactive works challenges the role of the audience and engages it in acts of play and storytelling. Rather than expecting passive viewership, these works rely on the audience’s participation to fully activate their intentions as artworks. In this case, the art object is not the art itself – it is merely the conduit for a conversation. Via rewired electronic singing fish, a bar recreation installation, word games and performance, the audience will be asked to contribute stories, imagination and critical dialogue to bring these works to fruition.
