At the Threshold: Matt Austin
@ Smart Museum of Art
5550 S. Greenwood Avenue
Opening Thursday, August 1st, from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Chicago-based artist Matt Austin brings a new iteration of The Perch—his experimental forum for social exchange—to the Smart.
Austin was recently named the Smart’s first Interpreter in Residence. The yearlong program is designed as a forum for Chicago-based artists with an interest in social engagement to create participatory art experiences with Smart Museum guests.
Resident artists will host quarterly At the Threshold evening events throughout the year—continuing the popular cocktail hour series begun by Hornswaggler Arts—as well as other ephemeral actions.
At the August edition of At the Threshold, Austin will reveal a sculptural office space and library created for his residency. He’ll be joined by his brother Jeff Austin and photographer E.J. Hill in a live musical performance called The Mountain Was a Gift.
Free admission, cash bar. Drinks are $4. Must be 21+ to drink.
