May 10th 2013

In No Gods No Masters, HATCH Projects artists Jesse Butcher, James T. Green, and Christopher Meerdo manipulate appropriated images and transform subtexts through their irreverent formats. Sourcing material from social media, countercultures, and the Internet, these artists employ the animated GIF, print, paint, and sculpture in multivalent ways. Jesse Butcher mines texts and objects to create new visual forms and provide social commentary on hegemony. Through the artists’ works, No Gods No Masters examines how art gains power when derived from networks and transformed to gain currency with different audiences, questioning the multiple meanings in language and semiotics.

This exhibition is organized by HATCH Projects curator-in-residence, Teresa Silva.

There will be an opening reception on Friday, May 10, 2013, and the exhibition will run through May 30, 2013.
