Chicago at Work: Edie Fake

Edie Fake was born in Chicagoland in 1980. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2002 and has since clocked time in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Baltimore. He was one of the first recipients of Printed Matter’s Awards for Artists and his collection of comics, Gaylord Phoenix, won the 2011 Ignatz Award for Outstanding Graphic Novel. His prints and fine art have been exhibited internationally and his most recent body of work, “Memory Palaces,” was shown at the Thomas Robertello Gallery this past January. He currently lives in Chicago and works as a comics sommelier for Quimby’s Books and as an organizer for the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE).
Chicago at Work is a new lecture series bringing Chicago-based artists and art workers to speak about their practice and how they make it work in the city we call home. This is a student-run lecture series, presented by the Student Programming Board at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
