In his newest collection of paintings and sculptures, [Bob Jones] has taken on the role of both the tracker and the tracked. His work is the alchemical forging of elements that feel at once primary and simultaneously prophetic. The stir stick and the dust bunny, the paint can and the tar ball, the fallen bandana and the thrown away fence post in the neighbor’s back yard, all become ingredients in this transformational sorcery, a necromantic embrasure of the omen in the ordinary.

In a painting titled Ghillie Suit, Jones brings us into the clothing of the stick and moss covered hunter, turning human into forest, where outlines and shadows bring the viewer into close connection with the branch and the leaf, with the smothering encroachment of the dense, indifferent trees.

Using both instinct and intellect, Jones follows the directional markings of the studio, the triangle and the curve, the topography of debris, where the floor of the workspace recalls the floor of a new wilderness, recalls the fields in the fall when the time for harvest is clocked by the position of the earth, and the sun becomes the moon with an increased quickness, and the reaper becomes the artist whose creation is not unlike the regurgitated pellet of a bird that hunts at night.
